Sunni Party Calls Protestors to Leave Pearl Roundabout

Manama (Xinhua) — A Sunni political party in Bahrain on Wednesday called upon anti-government protestors to evict the Pearl Roundabout and immediately engage in dialogue.

Members of the National Unity Gathering staged a massive rally attended by thousands of Sunnis in a show of solidarity with Bahrain government.

“The protestors should leave the landmark and sit on the negotiation table. It is important to talk at this crucial moment, ” Dr Abdullatif Mahmood, a senior party leader said while addressing thousands of Sunni’s gathered at Al Fateh Mosque in Juffair.

The rally was held hours after Shiite protestors marched for the first time near the Interior Ministry headquarters in the capital calling for the release of political prisoners.

Last week, top opposition leader, Shaikh Hassan Mushaima, who returned from UK said he would ask all protestors to leave the landmark occupied since Feb 19, ” if there was a guarantee from the government it would look into the demands of political reforms. “

The Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa urged all parties to immediately start the dialogue without any further delay, stating the country faced financial and economic losses.

Bahrain Formula One races scheduled to be held from March 11-13 were cancelled last month due to the unrest. The Spring of Culture event that featured performances by Marcel Khalifa, Fairooz among other artists was also called off on the same grounds.
