Yemeni Police Fire Warning Bullets to Break Up Protesters’ Clashes

Sanaa (Xinhua): Police in the Yemeni capital Sanaa fired warning shots on March 26 to break up potential clashes between the loyalists of President Ali Abdullah Saleh and their rivals outside Sanaa University, witnesses said.

Thousands of Saleh’s loyalists wielding rifles and batons are marching forward to hundreds of thousands of anti-government protesters, Twfic al-Yaziday told Xinhua.

A huge number of youths-led protesters outside Sanaa University kept shouting “Oh Allah, oh Allah, overthrow Ali Abdullah,” in reference to the president.

The police shot warning shots into the air, in an attempt to prevent Saleh’s loyalists from advancing, the witness said.

No casualty was reported.
