Activists Condemn Attack on Swami Agnivesh

BeyondHeadlines Special Correspondent

Ahmedabad: Attack on Swami Agnivesh in Gujarat was condemned by activists at the public meeting at Sardarbaug by a group of people who heckled him on the pretext of discussing an issue. Earlier in the day, while attending a hearing by various social groups and NGOs at Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Swami had lost his wallet. When it could not be found despite several announcements, a volunteer gave an application to Naranpura police station stating loss of money and important documents.

There was a suspense at Sabarmati Ashram till late on Thursday night about the scheduled visit of Anna Hazare at the place from where the nation’s freedom struggle had started. Hazare, a staunch Gandhian, was expected to visit Mahatma Gandhi’s most famous ashram. However, he could not visit the ashram due to his busy schedule. Hazare also missed an interaction with lawyers and journalists in the city on Thursday afternoon.

Former Gujarat DGP R B Sreekumar in his representation to Anna Hazare stated that the government favoured Tata by providing them land at cheap rates near Sanand. “To that, they helped the state with R K Raghavan, head of Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing post-Godhra riots, who was till recently employed by Tatas,” said Sreekumar in his letter. The letter also highlighted land allotment scam in Gandhinagar.
