Sania Mirza Makes an Early Exit from Wimbledon

India’s Sania Mirza crashed out of the women’s singles event of the Wimbledon 6-7, 6-2, 3-6 first round loss to France’s Virgine Razzano.

Sania leading 5-4 in the first set, lost the tie-break narrowly.However, she fought back in the second set going up 2-0 and winning it easily by 6-2.

The final set saw a complete transformation in play with Razzano becoming more aggressive. Despite saving a host of break points, Mirza finally dropped serve for 3-4.Razzano crucial consolidated the break with a hold to love before ensuring that she would not need to serve for the match by squeezing out of the contest on Mirza’s serve.

Sania’s dipped to 48 percent in the final set and was broken twice for her to lose after a 2 hr 12 min battle.

The players are now leveled 1-1 in head-to-head.

Sania has never moved beyond the second round in the singles at Wimbledon.

Sania Mirza still has the women’s double event to back on, where she will team up with her French Open Doubles Partner Elena Vesnina.

However, the Indian is doubtful for the doubles owing to a painful left knee injury.
