KAVEM to Campaign for Soni Sori and Dayamani Barla

Kisan Adivasi Visthapit Ekta Manch (KAVEM) has announced that it will campaign for Soni Sori and Dayamani Barla in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Soni Sori, a tribal activist and primary school teacher, is contesting on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket from the Maoist-heartland of Bastar, Chhattisgarh. Dayamani Barla, who is an indigenous tribal journalist and activist, contesting on AAP ticket from Khunti, Jharkhand.

KAVEM said it decided to support candidates like Soni Sori and Dayamani Barla who are known for their undoubted pro-people stand, and are not only a victim of state’s cruel atrocities but also have been an icon of resistance.

“Elections in these two constituencies shall symbolize a strong challenge to the machinery against its insensitivity towards the common public,” KAVEM said in an email statement.

“It is decided that Ravi Shekhar and Ekta will join Soni Sori in Bastar on 1st of April 2014 and stay their for one week. They have already stated for Bastar and will camp there to support Ms Sori.”
