The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi

Dear Sir,

Kindly allow us to draw your kind attention towards host of issues in Jamia Nagar locality of Okhla vidhan sabha, the most prominent of them being the ongoing demolition drive carried out by Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The MCD has sealed many buildings in the last few weeks in the minority dominated area of the national capital and also demolished many terming them as illegal. The behavior of MCD is hard to understand as the entire area is not regularized and the civic body does not provide any facility in the area as is the practice in other parts of the national capital.

When someone repairs his old house after the family expands or due to high population pressure in the Jamia Nagar locality as people come here to stay who cannot afford house in other parts of the locality, MCD terms those reconstruction as illegal and either seals them or demolishes them. The problem is that MCD does not have any blue print or plan to convert those buildings as legal entities as despite demands the area has not been regularized.

Sometimes some people take stay orders from the high court and later with aid and help of corrupt officials they are allowed to get away with it. There is no water supply or other facilities in the area but MCD comes in to implement its rights over the areas without any facility being provided to the people. Kindly allow us to request you that please consider the request of the people of Okhla and stop the ongoing demolition and sealing drive being carried out by MCD.

The civic agencies also does not carry out any cleanliness in the area as such huge garbage dumps could be found strewn on the roads of the locality making the life of people a virtual hell.
Besides this area is being subjected to long hours of power cut by the power distribution company – BSES, which in comparison to other parts of Delhi is higher. At times power is not supplied for the whole day.

Encroachment mafia also rules the roost in the area with the entire stretch of roads and pavements being occupied by vendors which leads to hours of traffic jam in the Batla House chowk. Traffic also remains stranded from the stretch of Jamia Millia Islamia VC office till Nai Basti area beyond Jamia Nagar police station for which despite many reminders no action had been taken.

We, therefore request you to kindly consider looking at our grievances and help us in solving our problems for which we shall be highly obliged and thankful. We are sitting on dharna (sit in protest) at Batla House chowk (town centre) in an attempt to raise our issues and attract the attention of higher authorities including you.

We hope that you will look into the issues raised by us and help us in guiding to make Jamia Nagar a better place to live.

Thanking You

Sincerely Yours
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Okhla
