PUNE to witness ‘Jatayu Moksham’ – A Dance Drama by Chennai’s Kalakshetra Foundation

As part of its continuous endeavor to propagate and preserve the Indian Classical Dance, city based not for profit organization Nrityayatri is organizing ‘Jatayu Moksham’, a famous dance drama of Chennai’s Kalakshetra Foundation’, a world renowned Bharatanatyam institution. ‘Jatayu Moksham’ will take place at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir on Saturday, February 7th at 5:30pm.

An announcement to this effect was made by Meghana Sabade, Founder of Nrityayatri during a Press Meet held in the city today. Priyadarshani Govind – Director of Kalakshetra Foundation and Shraddha Palsule – Coordinator of Nrityayatri were also present on this occasion.

‘Jatayu Moksham’ is a widely recognized tale from the ageless epic Ramayana that is so much part of our tradition and culture. Nrityayatri together with Kalakshetra Foundation is providing an excellent opportunity to the dance lovers of Pune for the first time to experience this story through live dance-drama performance.

Jatayu Moksham is a Ballet in the form of Bharatanatyam. It will present different episodes from Ramayana like Ram, Lakshman and Sita’s Wanavaas, Sita’s abduction, the golden deer and a fight between Ravan and Jatayu through this fascinating dance – drama performance, which will surely mesmerize the viewers through its narration, choreography, costumes, backdrop, props, dance steps and music.

Nrityayatri is a unique initiative engaged in propagating the rich culture of Indian Classical dance forms by conducting dance tours, workshops & performances by legendary gurus and artists. Now Nrityayatri is registered under company act as non profit organisation. Under this initiative, Nrityayatri is organizing this ballet in association with Kalakshetra Foundation based in Chennai.

Kalakshetra Foundation was established by Rukmini Devi Aundale in 1936 becoming the first dance institute to establish a meaningful theoretical syllabus for dancers. It has a rich repertoire of dance-dramas and Bharatnatyam performances that are based on Mythology, Folk Traditions, Classical and Contemporary of different periods in varied languages.
