BeyondHeadlines News Desk

RAIGAD: The Raigad Police has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against educationist PA Inamdar, Maharashtra Cosmopolitan and Education Society Secretary Latif Magdum and seventeen others including trustees, teachers and non teaching staff on charges of negligence which led to the death of fourteen students of Abeda Inamdar Senior College on Feb 1.

The Bachelor students were from the Computer Science Department of the Abeda Inamdar College and part of a group of over 130 students, who were picnicking  near the seashore of the historic Murud Janjira Fort in Raigad District of Maharashtra.

Besides Mr. Inamdar, the police have booked MCES Secretary Latif Magdum, Mrs Abeda Inamdar and teachers of the college under IPC section 304 (a)  a( death caused by negligence ) and Section 34. The FIR was lodged by Shivaji Salgar, father of deceased Swapnali who was a third year BCS student who drowned on the tragic day.

The parents under the umbrella of Shikshan Hakka Manch President Mateen Mujavar had been rallying against the college administration and management alleging they were unceremoniously ejected out of the campus by Mr Inamdar when they had gone to seek an explanation. A video released by the grieving parents showed the parents and relatives engaged in a heated exchange of words with Mr Inamdar and his acquaintances.

Mateen Mujavar told mediapersons that people’s power was far more superior than the arrogant administration of MCES Society. “The Azam Campus management under Mr Inamdar has become thick skinned and treated the parents with contempt in an inhumane manner. Instead of offering succour to the families of the victims, they went ahead with the arrogant behavior, abused and were showed the door,” he added. He added that the democratic fight to seek justice for the parents against the powerful influential MCES administration would continue.

P A Inamdar said “I came to know about the case from the media. We will fully co-operate with the police during the investigation. We have not been told officially about the case ,” he added. Earlier, during the day, the parents met MNS Chief Raj Thackeray seeking his attention towards their case.
