Irfan Ahmad for BeyondHeadlines

Delhi is very rich in art, culture and music. We always get opportunity to witness best in these fields. The best of jazz artistes are all set to perform at the jazz music festival ‘Jazz Utsav’ in the Capital on February 19 at One Golden Mile. This ‘Jazz Utsav’ is organized by Teamwork Arts and Capital Jazz.

Legendary guitarist Stanley Jordan is the main attraction of this festival. Jazz music lovers will witness back to back performance by Stanley. Artists like To Vinicio- Matteo Fraboni Trio, Aman Kartikeya Pranai, and Smiti & Adhir will also perform at the festival. Stanley will lead the party.  Aman Kartikeya Pranai’s experimental collaboration will feature musicians Aman Mahajan on piano, Kartikeya Srivastava on drums and Pranai Gurung on guitar.

This edition of Jazz Utsav runs around the theme ‘put the classic back into jazz’, as it recreates the raw energy and passion of the analog times. Delhi audience can expect a strong bout of nostalgia as they listen to the finest of the genre from India and abroad playing classic, unfiltered jazz.

Audience will enjoy new project of Italian drummer Matteo Fraboni.  This performance by trio comprising Fraboni, Odysseas Tomazou on guitar and Gianluca Liberatore on electric bass, the group beautifully blends their own compositions with traditional bossa nova music and jazz. Smiti on vocal and Adhir on guitar will feature a range of jazz and blues standards.

Jazz Utsav is part of Teamwork Arts’ Jazz India Circuit – an endeavour to spread the word and sound of jazz across the country through various concerts that span the spectrum of the fascinating genre. This edition of Jazz India Circuit began with experimenting with new-age jazz at Goa International Jazz Live Festival (GIJLF) in November last year and will reach its crescendo with the Jazz Utsav in Delhi.  Sanjoy Roy, MD, Teamwork Arts, says, “This Jazz Utsav is definitely special because we have the great Stanley Jordan performing at the festival. Apart from him, we have the best of jazz artistes who will recreate the nostalgia and magic of classic jazz. What a fantastic culmination of the journey that began in Goa.”
