New Delhi:  On the occasion of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi took a dig on Prime Minster Dr Manmohan Singh for failing to vote in Assam assembly election.

“I am pained that India’s PM Dr Manmohan Singh, who is a voter in Assam, did not go to Assam to vote in the crucial Assembly elections. This is painful news for the people of this country, and more so on the occasion of Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary,” Modi said.

Dr Singh who is a Rajya Sabha (upper house) from Assam is a registered voter in Dispur, along with his wife Gursharan Kaur. Assembly election was held in Assam yesterday.

Modi said that the “essence of democracy” is n the right to vote, that Dr Singh could not exercise.
