Centre Gives Short-Shrift to Bhardwaj’s Report

BeyondHeadlines News Desk

New Delhi: The centre appears to have given short-shrift to the controversial recommendation of Karnataka Governor H. R. Bhardwaj for imposition of President’s rule in the state.

A meeting of the union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, did not discuss the “special report” send by Bhardwaj to the centre on Sunday for dismissal of the BJP government and keeping the assembly in suspended animation.

Asked by reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting whether the governor’s report came up for discussion, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni’s response was “no.”

On Wednesday, the Governor had expressed the hope that the Centre would take a decision in a day or two apparently on his recommendations made after last week’s Supreme Court judgment quashing the disqualification of 11 BJP MLAs and 5 independent MLAs.

The Governor had made these remarks when Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa met him and urged him to convene the assembly from June 2 in a bid to prove his majority.
