Anna Team Meets Left Leader

BeyondHeadlines News Desk

New Delhi: In an effort to get support for the civil society’s draft of the Lokpal Bill, Right to Information (RTI) activist Arvind Kejriwal and Ex-IPS Kiran Bedi today met Left leaders today.

Both members of the Anna Hazare-led civil society team met Prakash Karat, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Bedi tweeted today: “They are for inclusion of prime minister and bureaucracy below the joint secretary ranks in the Lokpal Bill and to cover the common man bribery issues.”

“Mr Karat was also for inclusive lokpal as we proposed… which includes anti-corruption wing of CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) merged into lokpal. Government bill creates duality,” she added.

Earlier, Bedi had said that they have been invited by senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani on July 1 to make a presentation of the government’s and the civil society’s draft versions of the Lokpal Bill.

“Team Advani has invited Team Anna to make a presentation of the lokpal bill July 1. We would be meeting them and not be shying away, undermining or overtaking anything,” Bedi said.

“We’ll present the lokpal bill and the government proposition clause by clause and leave it to them to form their opinion,” she added.

“We are meeting other parties too today and in days ahead. We have asked for an appointment with (Congress general secretary) Sonia Gandhi too,” Bedi further tweeted.
