With less than a month left for the inaugural Formula 1 race in India, Red Bull greeted Delhiites in full throttle with their rookie driver Daniel Ricciardo zipped, zapped and zoomed on the historic Rajpath during the show named ‘Speed Street’ held in the afternoon.
The noise of the car was deafening at 250 k’s per hour leaving the shutterbugs amused as they barely managed to catch a glimpse as the car vanished in seconds.
Ricciardio ran his car thrice on Rajpath, enthralling the 2000-strong crowd. At the end of the race, he waved the Indian Tri-Color, drawing huge cheers.
The event was organized by in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry and ministry of tourism. Other notable performances included motorcycle stunts by a group called ‘Ghost Riders’ while six SUV’s Renault Koleos also put up a stunt show. Rock band Indian Ocean also stepped on the floor to entertain the spectators.
Traffic diversions were made by the police for the smooth sail of the event.
Asked what speed he managed while driving, he said,” I am not sure but I think I was close to 270 kms.”
Delhi will hold its very first F1 race in the country on 30th October at the Buddha Circuit.
