New Delhi: In a recent development on seat sharing issue for the forthcoming assembly election in West Bengal, Mamata Banarjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) has reportedly reached a consensus with the Congress party. Mamata Banerjee had set yesterday evening deadline for the Congress party to reach a seat sharing agreement.

Earlier, the Congress party had threatened it would alone contest the election in the state. Sources say TMC Supremo Mamata Bannerjee had a discussion with the Congress part high command last night and the two have reportedly reached a consensus on seat sharing.

While sources add that the Congress is just waiting for the go ahead from President Sonia Gandhi. If all goes well, Mamata is likely to release the list this evening. The pre-poll alliance between the two parties had been caught in a logjam with even top leaders failing to iron out differences.

Sources say that the TMC and Congress will forge an alliance to defeat the Left in West Bengal and Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to travel to Kolkata today for the formal announcement. Now the differences over the numbers of seats demanded may have been resolved but the issue of constituencies still remain an issue with Mamata eyeing the Congress’ Kolkata seats.

As per 2006 assembly where the Congress had 21 seats, this year the Congress has been pushing for at least 98 of 294 seats as opposed to 63 offered. According to sources, the list may announce a 65-229 split of the seats.
