Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh doubted the “veracity of diplomacy dispatches” of The Hindu-WikiLeaks released that portrays the government in bad light.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave, Dr Singh  accepted that such charges “do affect us… affect our image both at home and abroad.”

However, he sees the problem in the larger system and emphasized the “need for electoral reforms” so that “funding of political parties is more transparent.”

He declined to comment directly and said that if he or his government has to make any statements it will be done in the parliament first, although he reiterated his colleagues’ doubts on the “veracity of diplomacy dispatches.”

When probed further, Dr Singh said: “I have no knowledge of any such purchases…have not auhtorised anyone to purchase any votes” to save the government in 2008 and is hence “not at all involved in any of these transactions.”

He further added his government’s commitment of cleaning our system” from the “malaise of corruptions.”
