“We have no problems to have an understanding even with the AIUDF a party of the minorities to oust the Congress in Assam,” she added. Mehra said, “BJP is fighting alone in the coming assembly elections. But in the post-poll scenario, it’s ready to align with any non-Congress party to come to power. We have no problem to join hands with AIUDF because the party is democratic and is functioning under the Constitution. We are hopeful that the next government in the state will be formed under BJP’s leadership with possible support from like AGP, ASDC, AIUDF and the BPPF,” said Mehra.
Speaking to the media here, the BJP leader said her party is fighting in 121 constituencies. “The BJP is ready to consider the case of Bengali Hindus coming from Bangladesh and is committed to treating them as refugees instead of identifying them as infiltrators or foreigners. We will fight the elections on the basis of price rise, corruption and the state government’s failure to check militancy in Assam. The Congress government has completely failed on these issues and has deprived the people of basic facilities and rights,” she added.
Mehra said BJP will highlight the functioning of Bihar and Gujarat governments as role models before the electorate of Assam during poll campaigning. “We will request them to bring BJP to power and enjoy good governance. The party is committed to giving a clean and corruption-free government which will be committed to welfare and development of all sections of people,” she added.
BJP’s Assam state committee general secretary Ajit Bhattacharjee ruled out allegations of irregularities and corruption in the process of selecting BJP candidates for the coming elections. He said nominees from all sections, including Assamese, Bengali Hindus, Muslims, Nepali, tea tribes, Hindi-speaking, SC &ST and Meithies have been accommodated and provided with equal importance in the list of candidates. “There’s is always dissatisfaction everywhere. This is not unreasonable and we are trying to address the problems in our camp. The list of candidates has been prepared on the basis of survey reports and the state committee has nothing to do with it,” said Bhattacharjee. He ruled out his involvement in transaction of money for awarding tickets to some candidates.
