Kashmir solution vital to peace in region: APHC

Srinagar, March 03 (KMS): The authorities took veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani into custody in occupied Kashmir on March 3 soon after he landed at Srinagar airport.

Syed Ali Gilani had gone to New Delhi for medical treatment. Later he was placed under house arrest at his residence in Hyderpora area of Srinagar.

A complete shutdown was observed in Tral town, today, against the killing of a youth and destroying of a house by Indian troops during a siege and search operation, yesterday. All shops and business establishments remained closed in the area.

An Indian trooper committed suicide at a military camp in Zakoora area of Srinagar. This raised the number of such deaths among Indian troops and police personnel in the occupied territory to 208 since January 2007.

The All Parties Hurriyet Conference leaders in a meeting in Srinagar with New Delhi-based British diplomats said that the resolution of Kashmir was vital to the peace and stability in the South Asian region.

On the other hand, the occupation authorities have taken stringent security measures in Jammu ahead of Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh’s visit, tonight, paralysing completely the routine life of the people.

The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Valley with rest of the world was closed for vehicular traffic today due to fresh snowfall and heavy rains around the Banihal Tunnel.
