New Delhi: The government yesterday appointed Prime Minister Principal Secretary T K A Nair as the advisor. Pulok Chatterjee, who is presently serving as an executive director in the World Bank in Washington, will replace him as the principal secretary to the prime minister. The appointments will become effective from October 3.

As advisor, Nair, a retired IAS officer of 1963 batch, will be given the rank and status of Minister of State in the PMO, but sources suggest that the implications of the rejig means a clear decline in his powers. The official release, incidentally, did not mention the responsibilities that Nair will be given of in the PMO.
