Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a major development in the murder case of Right to Information (RTI) activist Shehla Masood, who was shot dead on Tuesday, CNN-IBN TV channel today accessed a letter that showed Masood was being threatened by an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS).
Five teams have been set up in Bhopal to investigate the murder of the RTI activist who was shot dead while on her way to a protest supporting anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare.
There have been no arrests yet. The police say that they have no witnesses as of now.
“Shehla Masood was shot dead around 11 am when she was sitting in her car,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Adarsh Katiyar said. The motive and details of the killing are awaited, he said, adding a hunt has been launched to nab the assailant.
Masood’s cremation took place on Tuesday night.
A keen wildlife enthusiast, she had filed at least 40 RTI applications involving forest and police officers.
Reports say she had recently complained of harassment and threats after she began pursuing the death of a tigress in Bandhavgarh National Park.
Known to be a hard worker, Shehla also ran a company called ‘Miracles’ which used to do various things, including event management.
