New Delhi: All praise for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani Friday backed a US Congressional report that termed Modi a prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections, news agency IANS reported.

In his latest blog, Advani quotes from the Congressional report, stating that Modi is the best example of good governance in India.

“The Report says that Gujarat which has only five per cent of India’s population, now accounts for more than one fifth of India’s total exports,” Advani writes.

He also quotes from an article on website Firstpost.com, and says the US is “being primed” for the BJP returning to power.

“Now, American lawmakers and the State Department are being primed for the return of the BJP to power in New Delhi, with Modi at the helm as prime minister, following what US analysts say is a “precipitous” decline in the Congress party’s fortunes due to a string of corruption scandals,” he writes.

The BJP leader also comments on the US’ visa ban on Modi after the 2002 riots, stating that the Gujarat chief minister never asked for a visa.

“Two years back in July 2009, when US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met me I raised this question of Narendra Modi’s visa with her by telling her: “I haven’t been able to understand how and why your Government has announced that Narendra Modi has been refused a visa, when Modi has not even applied for one?” he writes.
