BeyondHeadlines News Desk

Lucknow: Jat agitation affects rail services in Northern India. The agitators are sitting on rail tracks, which is severely affecting the movement of trains in Moradabad division of Northern Railway. Around 24 trains were cancelled today on the Moradabad route affecting almost 60 other trains. The trains have remained affected for almost a fortnight now due to the Jat agitation.

On the other hand, Jats will hold panchayat to decide future course of action. The panchayat will discuss the central government’s assurance to consider demand of reservation for Jats in central services under the other backward class (OBC) category in central services. The Jats are on warpath for 14 days. They have blocked the rail route at Kafurpur leading to cancellations of over 100 trains and harassment of lakhs of passengers.

The railway officials fear that cancelled trains might affect the supply of coal to some of the power plants in north. Besides, point to point delivery of some essential commodities might also be affected due to the agitation. However, since it is a law and order situation, railways can not control it.

Jats have threatened to cut all essential supplies to Delhi if their demands are not met. Agitators also plan to block the supply of oil from Mathura refinery to Delhi. A Jat Sikh organisation has warned of a stir in Punjab if the demand of the community for quota in jobs is not met immediately. “A decision in this regard will be taken after observing the response of the authorities,” Jat Sikh Sabha chief Suchha Singh Bajwa said.
