BeyondHeadlines News Desk

New Delhi: The Delhi Police today detained two persons namely Ashraf and Tabreezfor for allegedly harbouring and helping the “stalker” who gunned down Radhika Tanwar, a Delhi University student. The police said that it would shortly soon catch the main suspect.

Police claimed that they have identified the ‘killer’. The suspect is Vijay alias Ram Singh, 25, from Viswan village in Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh and is ‘mentally disturbed’.  According to reports around 300 sleuths are on the lookout for the suspect.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said that the main suspect would soon be nabbed. Tanwar (22), a second-year Batchelor of Arts student, was killed outside her college in Dhaula Kuan’s Shantiniketan area on March 8 by a man, who is believed to have been stalking her for some time.

The police said that the man was beaten up by local residents three-and-a-half years ago for stalking the girl. He had been harbouring a grudge against the girl and killed her as he wanted to “avenge his humiliation”, they said.

The broad daylight murder, ironically coming on the International Women’s Day, had raised questions over safety of women and law and order situation in the capital. Students and local residents have staged protests against the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the culprit.
