Jamia To Implement ‘Minority’ Reservation From This Academic Session

New Delhi: New Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia has decided to implement reservations for Muslim minorities in all its courses from this academic year itself. A notification to this effect was issued on May, 10 by Jamia’s Registrar S.M. Sajid. Accordingly 30% of seats in all courses would be reserved for Muslim from the academic year 2011-12. Separately 10% of seats would be reserved for women candidates. Scheduled caste and (ST) and other backward caste Muslims (OBC) would have further 10% reservation. 

National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) had declared Jamia a ‘Minority’ Institution on February, 22, 2011. In accordance, University’s Academic Council had given ‘recommendation’ to this effect dated March, 29 which was approved by the Executive Council on April, 1.

Besides above reservation, 5%  of seats in the undergraduate course would be reserved for students who have passed out from Jamia schools, provided their studied in Jamia for at least 5 years. Earlier in all courses reservation for ‘internal’ students were 25%.

Physically handicapped students of any faith would remain to have 3% of reservations.
