Defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel won the European Grand Prix in Valencia with his sixth win in last eight races.

Vettel beat Alonso by 10.981 seconds for his second straight victory along Valencia’s street circuit. The German is now clear 77 points clear of his closest rivals.

Homeboy Alonso’s second place is the Spanish driver’s first podium finish in Valencia.

Vettel’s win capped a fairly successful afternoon for Red Bull as his team-mate Mark Webber came in third.

Lewis Hamilton had to settle for fourth place, although he appeared more comfortable on the harder of the two Pirelli tyres in the closing stages despite the continuing presence of Massa, but he retained his place as Massa came behind him in fifth place.

Canadian Race champion Button was sixth fastest while Roseberg was seventh.Meanwhile,Button endured problems with KERS for most of the race.

Jaime Alguersuari produced a stunning drive to take eight for Toro Rosso.

Force India’s Adrian Sutil finished on the ninth spot while his team-mate Paul di Resta was disappointed with fourteenth position.

On a sweltering summer afternoon, Vettel produced a start to match the weather as air temperature rose beyond 30 degrees and the track temperature hit 40’s.

This signaled problem for tyres but the German maintained his focus and went on to maintain his lead over other teams.

There were a few small overtakes here and there in the midfield but nothing particularly heart-stopping.

The final pit stops were as dull as those that preceded them. The closest race then became Alonso vs. Webber for second place, but this was cut short when Webber was told to nurse his car home after a gearbox problem.

The win is the Vettel’s sixth of the season and his 16th of his career.

It was just the fourth time in F1 history that all the drivers finished the race and first time in 46 years.

Lone Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan was the last man to finish the race.
