New Delhi: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) today created ruckus in Rajya Sabha (upper house) over the land allotment in Haryana to the Rajiv Gandhi Trust forcing two adjournments and accused the Congress of following a different standard in party-ruled state on land acquisition issue.

As soon as Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan called for Zero Hour mentions, Maya Singh (BJP) raised the issue.

She was joined by her party colleagues who trooped into the Well and started shouting slogans against the Congress.

Making pleas for order in the House, Khan, said that since it was a state subject, BJP’s notice has not been admitted.

“Who will reply to it? It is a state subject,” he said, adding, “This is violation…. It is not correct. It is not the way. You cannot run the House like this.”

When the uproar continued, the Chair adjourned the House for ten minutes. When the House re-assembled, the BJP members were unrelenting and resorted to slogan shouting. He was again forced to adjourn the House till 2 PM.

On petitions of land owners including well-known artist Anjolie Ela Menon, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has summoned records related to acquisition of land in Gurgaon for the Rajiv Gandhi Trust and sought the names of the trustees. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi are the trustees.

Haryana government had yesterday informed the court that a committee was being constituted to consider cases of petitioners in connection with acquisition of the land.

In BSP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, Congress led by General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has supported farmers’ agitation against land acquisition.
