Activists of ABVP and Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena demonstrated at the Chowk Sarai Juliana to rename the road as Shahid Mohan Chandra Sharma Chowk. They asserted that as Inspector Sharma was martyred on this road that connects to Batla House, this chowk should be renamed on his name.
Interestingly, the protesting team painted the sign board with the name of Mr. Sharma (as shown in the picture) on top of the board of Chowk Sarai Juliana. The police then whitened it to cover the painting. The protesting team again pasted the name of Mr. Sharma. While talking to Beyond Headlines, Mr. Vijay Sharma a local youth BJP functionary claimed that Batla House Chowk has been renamed as Atif Chowk hence he asked what was wrong in demanding the Chowk Juliana to be renamed on the name of the martyred police officer who gave his life for the country.
Upon investigation the BH team did not find any truth in Mr. Sharma’s claim of Batla House Chowk being replaced by the name of Atif Chowk. Moreover, the local community agreed on the fact that Mr. Sharma was martyred but raised the question on who martyred him. The community feels that the chowk Juliana can be renamed only after an independent magisterial inquiry.
