Protests Against IPS Sanjeev Bhatt’s ‘Arbitrary’ Arrest

New Delhi: Civil rights groups and activists have come together to stage protest against ‘arbitrary and unconstitutional arrest’ of suspended DIG Sanjeev Bhatt by the Gujarat Police.

The protest in the capital will hold at Gujarat Bhawan at the Kautilya Marg, Chanakyapuri, from 3:30 pm onwards today.

Bhatt has been on the state government radar since he blew the lid off the Gujarat riot cases and directly indicted Narendra Modi and his government in affidavits he filed in courts.

Bhatt was arrested on Friday on charges threatening a police constable who served under him for making ‘false statements.’

Shabnam Hashmi of ANHAD condemned the incident and has termed it “arbitrarily and unconstitutional.”

Protests are also being organized in Luckhnow, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jammu, Baroda and several other towns across India.

Bhatt will today file a petition for bail in the court.
