Didi and Behenji Ignore Rules to Hide ‘MAYA’

Afroz Alam Sahil, BeyondHeadlines

New Delhi. Behenji and Didi of Indian Politics Mayawati and Mamta Banerjee may talk a lot about transparency and good governance in television advertisements of their governments but the fact is that they are ignoring rules when it comes to their transparency and responsibility.

Despite many controversies surrounding donations given to Mayawati and BSP, the party has so far never submitted details of its funds to the Election Commission of India.

The documents recieved by BeyondHeadlines throught RTI shows that Bahujan Samaj Party of Mayawati and Trinmool Congress of Mamta Banerjee had never submitted information about its funds to ECI.

The more interesting is the fact that the flag bearer of opposition in parliament and crusader of anti corruption movement in politics, The Bhartiya Janata Party has also not submitted information regarding its funds in financial year 2010-11. This is the same BJP who has accepted donation of Rupees One Lakh from controversial Dow chemicals in year 2006-7. The donation, as first reported by BeyondHeadlines, has caused much furor in Indian politics.

Samajwadi Party of Mulayam Singh Yadav is has also not submitted information about its funds to the ECI this year.

But BSP, TMC and SP are not alone in list of parties not submitting information to ECI. More then one thousand registerd political parties have ignored the rules of ECI regarding Party funding.

Since they are the politicians and belong to the ruling class they atleast deserve the distinction to break the rules. Above all India is a Democracy and Democracies these days are ruled by those who master art of breaking rules!

(This report is first in series of Political Parties and their Funding, soon we will share infromation about funding of Other Parties)
