The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is holding a national  seminar on  Early Literacy Needs, Practices and Achievements on 24th February 2012.

NCERT is the apex advisory body to the MHRD in the area of school education. It considers Early Literacy as a priority area. To promote the concept and progressive methodologies of imparting literacy skills to children, the council has initiated Early Literacy Programme with the support of MHRD under Sarva Siksha Abhiyana (SSA).

The findings of the Pilot Project in Mathura and interaction with States/UTs indicate that there is a need to bring an increased sense of drive and momentum to early literacy programmes across the country. It is in this context that the Department of Elementary Education, NCERT is organizing this seminar.
