In a landmark decision, the Central Information Commission (CIC) has ruled that political parties will now come under the purview of the Right to Information or RTI Act. Now Political parties come under Purview of RTI Act

This means that information can now be sought on parties in the form of written records that could include details about their funding, expenditure and even selection of poll candidates.

The CIC’s order was in response to a clutch of petitions filed by RTI Activist Subhash Chandra Agarwal and Association for Democratic Reforms Natioanl Coordinator Anil Bairwal, who had argued that political parties should come under RTI.
