In a yet another novel move, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will seek direct opinion of people on the formation of government in Delhi on December 23.

AAP, which won 28 assembly seats in state elections, has received support offer from Congress for the formation of government in Delhi. But the party intends to go for public “sense” before finalizing on it.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Convener Arwind Kejriwal said that the party has decided to seek public opinion on the matter as there were differences over forming a government in Delhi with Congress support.

“We want to know what the general perception is. There will be a voice vote on the matter. Till Saturday, we will be spreading word about these meetings and asking people to get involved,” Kejriwal told reporters.

“We will distribute 25 lakh copies of an open letter and hold 270 public meetings till Sunday. People can give their opinion via SMS, phone calls or on our Web site.”

The party will hold jan sabhas in all wards over Saturday and Sunday before taking a final decision, which will be conveyed to the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung by Monday or Tuesday.

Last Saturday, the party wrote to Congress and BJP seeking their stand on 18 crucial things that the party would implement on coming to power.

While BJP did not reply at all to the AAP letter of demands. Kerjriwal stated: “The BJP did not care to respond.”

Congress provided its ‘evasive’ response on Monday, saying 16 of AAP’s demands could be met administratively, while offered support for the other two. AAP interpreted that Congress was only playing games and was not committed to supporting the party.
