PUNE : Three youths from Moshi including the son of a former Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Mayor died and two of their frienfs were critically injured in a road accident when the Wagon R (MH 14 EC 2402 ) they were travelling in dashed against a a bridge railing and fell down in 20 feet ditch near Waki in Chakan on Mumbai-Nasik highway on Friday night. The victims were on their way to participate in a night cricket tournament at Khed.

According to the rural police, the incident took place at 11.15 pm when the driver lost control after he misunderstood a turn and came crashing down leading to the death of three youths including Preetam, son of former Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PMC) Mayor Sharad Borate while the other have been identified as Sagar Samchan Pareshi (26) and Bapu alias Pratik Vivek Satadkar ( 23). The injured have been identified as Somnath Vitthal Borhade and Swapnil Subhash Borate (21), all residents of Moshi.

According to the police, Pritam and his friends were going to play cricket match at Khed on Friday night. The incident took place when the car came to Vaki area, the car driver lost his control at a sharp turne, hit the railing and fell into 20 feet deep ditch.

After the incident, the residents of the area rushed to the spot and rescued injured persons from the car and shifted them to the hospital. Police inspector DB Patil of Chakan police station said, “Seeing car’s condition, we suspect that the driver must be driving the car at high speed. As a result, he could not control the car at the sharp turn and met with accident. We have pulled out the car from the ditch,” he said.

Patil said that the spot is accident prone and the commuters should take care of it. ‘There is signboard also but most of the commuters do not pay attention to it and meet with accidents which can be fatal. We are going to take more precautionary measures to prevent such incidents and create awareness about the issue ” Patil added.
