The Pune Cantonment Police have booked Dhananjay Desai, the Founder-President of ‘Hindu Rashtra Sena’ and arrested five persons belonging to Hindu Janjagran Samiti (HJS) on charges of public circulation of mass distribution of objectionable pamphlets printed by them with the aim to  hurt religious sentiments of certain communities. According to the police, the pamphlets were circulated on the occasion of Shiv jayanti celebrations.

The suspects arrested have been identified as Ajay Humbar Gawli (27), a resident of Deulgaon Wada in Daund, Nana Sudam Jawalkar (26), a resident of Alandi Mhasobachi in Panmala area of Haveli tehsil, Vishal alias Vishwatma Dattatreya Ghule (31), a resident of Manjri farms, Shumbham Kailas Kamthe (18), a resident of Kadamvasti in Loni Kalbhor and Vaijnath Arun Bhagat (23), a resident of Loni Kalbhor.

Besides the five suspects, the police have also booked HJS senior office bearer Dhananjay Desai in connection with the case. Cantonment Police in their FIR stated that the suspect were found circulating pamplets which were derogatory in nature and were aimed at hurting religious sentiments and disturbing law and order. Gawli, is the pamphlet publisher, printed the pamphlets despite knowing its nuisance value and he has also been arrested, police said.

Deputy Commissioner ( Zone II ) Shirish Deshpande said that all the suspects named in the FIR will be arrested and strong action will be taken against the suspects involved in spreading mischief in the society. Desai has been questioned by Pune Crime Branch in connection with rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar murder case.
