Muslims leaders from various section of the community have come forward expressing displeasure over arrest of noted Hyderabad cleric Maulana Mohammad Abdul Qavi, who was arrested Sunday evening in a joint operation by Gujarat ATS and Delhi Police Special Cell.

Maulana Qavi was produced in a POTA court in Bhadra (Gujarat) Monday evening where Ahmadabad District Crime Branch requested the court for 21 days remand in CB custody but he was sent to police custody.

Reacting on the development, Welfare Party of India (WPI) strongly criticized the arrest of Maulana Qavi at Delhi airport by Gujarat ATS and Delhi Police.

WPI national president Mujtaba Farooq said the timing of these arrests raises serious doubts and many questions.

“These arrests got wide propaganda. The arrested youths were alleged to have links with IM and were charged with making plans to sabotage the election campaign of Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP,” he added.

“These arrests take place at a time when the much-hyped popular graph of Modi is coming down. Earlier also such dramas took place a number of times, many innocents were put behind bars for years on charges of planning assassination of Modi.

“We also saw many fake encounters on the basis of fake IB claims that the murdered youth were out to kill Modi. Every such detention, arrest and encounter helped Modi to raise his graph and rating and emerge as a champion of a certain community.

“These led Modi to win consecutive Gujarat elections with stunning margins. Many of the encounters were later proved to be fake leading to the arrest of more than three dozen top police officers of Gujarat to languish in jails for their roles in these encounters. Most of the arrested youth were honorably acquitted by courts after years of languishing in jails.”

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) supremo Asaduddin Owaisi said the Gujarat Police had arrested innocent people earlier also and resorted to malicious acts again.

Terming Maulana Qavi’s arrest without any allegation a human rights violation, Mr. Owaisi demanded his immediate release.

“We fought legally and democratically in the past against such acts of Gujarat police and we will struggle through legal and democratic means for the release of Maulana,” he declared.

“Why did MHA allowed Gujrat police to arrest Maulana Abdul Qavi in Delhi? What HM Shinde is doing ? Release Maulana immediately, the Hyderabad MP agitated on Twitter.”

A mass public meeting (Jalsa-e-Aam) has also been conducted at Minar Garden Function Haal in Hyderabad today against arrest of Maulana Abdul Qavi. Participants demanded immediate release of Maulana Qavi.
