SIXTY DRUNK DRIVERS ARRESTED IN PUNE

PUNE:  Continuing its crack down on drunken driving in the city, the Pune city traffic police department initiated a major drive against drunkard drivers and arrested as many as 60 of them during past three days. The drive come in the wake of Holi festival, the traffic department stated.  Deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Vishwas Pandhare, said,” The drive is a part of precautionary measure so that a strong message can be sent to those who indulge in drunken, negligent and rash driving ,” he said.

Pandhare said, “After the procurement of 50 new breath analyzer we were able to conduct such drives through the city more effectively. This weekend, the drive will be intensified so that less number of accidents take place on the roads,”he added. The traffic department has identified  areas where they will be intensifying the drive in the next few days.

Senior police inspector (planning), Rajendra Kamire said that drives will be carried during night time in areas like Koregaon Park, Baner and Hinjewadi as more than 70 percent of the drunken driving cases are registered in these areas knowing for pubs, restaurants and hotels.
