There are 460 Matka dens/ illegal lottery shops including 1000 illicit liquor dens operating in the city claims  RTI activist Anoop Awasthi

BeyondHeadlines Special Correspondent

PUNE: City based social worker and human rights activists has demanded a complete ban on illegal matka dens, lottery shops and liquor dens in the Pune. Despite repeated complaints no action or FIR has been registered in relation to the illegal establishments. “Will the newly appointed Police Commissioner Satish Mathur take action and close all this. We are there to support Police if protection provided. As in few complaints police officials loyal to these mafia handed over our contact details and caused threat to our life,” he alleged.

After undertaking survey of jurisdiction under Pune police, the legal rights society has found that these antisocial activities comprising Matka dens, illegal liquor shops are flourishing right under the nose of the policemen with no action being taken, Awasthi added.

“It is at my surprise that  the police is keeping silence over this matter despite my repeated reminders and in few cases lipstick action has been taken by some public servants .The mafia is paying bribe to some policemen and this is a very serious issue .T here is need for us to fight unitedly against this evil act. The police also made an attempt to file false cases against me  for being whistle blower in this serious matter,” he added. Awasthi further added that he would continue fighting against the criminals and will keep exposing their connections in the police department without any fear.
