Yerawada Jail Officials Killed My Son By Giving Him Poison -Sharif Shaikh

PUNE: Sharif Shaikh, father of deceased prisoner Inayat Sharif Shaikh (27), one of the six suspects in the kidnap-murder case of catering contractor Dalaram Rathod, has alleged that his son was given poison and killed in cold blood by the Yerawada Central Jail authorities in connivance with the police.

Sharif made serious allegations against the jail officials and said “the jail authorities and police are ruthless when it comes to Muslim criminals. In my son’s case they gave him poison and murdered him. Killing Muslim prisoners by secretly giving them poison has been a favorite modus operandi by the Yerawada jail authorities,” he alleged.

Inayat Sharif Shaikh (27), was one of the six suspects in the kidnap-murder case of catering contractor Dalaram Rathod, who died under mysterious circumstances on Friday. Shaikh was lodged in the Yerawada central prison since June 10 and was being taken to Sassoon General Hospital amid heavy police bandobast on Friday morning after he had complained of chest pain and uneasiness.

“Inayat vomited in the vehicle on the way to the hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctors. The reason behind his death will be ascertained only after the post mortem,” said senior inspector of Yerawada police station Sanjay Patil.

Inayat Shaikh was arrested on May 28 along with three others in connection with the kidnap and murder of Dalaram Rathod from Bibvewadi. The four were in police custody till June 10 and were later shifted to the Yerawada Central prison. Sharif further said that he was angry at the manner in which his son was eliminated by the officials by resorting to crude methods of execution which is against the constitution of the country. “Actually the killing of under trial in most brutal fashion in form of  giving them poison is the new form of encounter killing taking place in a highly cosmopolitan city like Pune,” he added.

Criminal Feroz Rahim Bangali (43), who had unleashed a reign of terror in upmarket Kondhwa had died under mysterious circumstances after he found unconscious in Yerwada Jail where he was an under trial and taken to the hospital. His family members had alleged that Bangali was killed by the jail authorities and policemen. The police had earlier invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Bangali for his alleged involvement in land grabbing and criminal activities. [/box]

Serious questions were raised at the security arrangements at Yerawada Central Jail after terror suspect Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui, 27, was found murdered inside the high security Jail of Pune on June 8, 2012.Siddiqui was found strangled, allegedly after a heated brawl with two other inmates, Alok Bhalerao and Sharad Mohol. The two allegedly strangled Siddiqui with their pyjama chord. Even the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in its report had observed that there were a number of loopholes in the jail’s security arrangements which led to Qateel’s murder.The agency further said said that the murder of suspected Indian Mujahideen operative Qateel Mohammed Siddiqui inside Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail was planned. The Rashtra Premi Samiti of Pune had alleged that Qateel was killed at the instance of the ATS and IB. [/box]
