Business Runs in Gujarati’s Blood, Not Military Matters

Hem Raj Jain for BeyondHeadlines

‘Being a Gujarati, business is in my blood’, as Modi voiced these words during his visit to Japan, he apparently wanted to project himself as someone who can be trusted in business / economic matters by Japan and by others.

Although there is nothing wrong in the above statement, but it warrants a qualification especially when he has shown particular tendency of trifling with martial matters. Modi seems to be oblivious of the fact that criminal matters are more powerful & important than civil matters and martial matters are more powerful & important than criminal matters (for the simple reason that civil matters are between citizens and citizens, criminal matters between citizens and State whereas martial matters are between State and State).

This was overlooked by Mahatma Gandhi too who tried to take independence merely from civilian elements of British regime without raising guns as if there is no need for taking independence from martial element of the regime. This resulted in trifurcation of India (India, West Pakistan and East  Pakistan) with ~ one million killed in partition riots and ~ 10 million displaced (so much for so-called non-violent freedom movement). Though Mahatma Gandhi (and his followers Nehru, Patel, Azad, Rajendra Prasad etc) have been eulogized as master politicians but it is incontrovertible principle of politics that people who can not protect the territory of their country do not know even abcd of politics.

Though Government of India (GOI) from 1947 to 2014 have shown martial deficiency [in relation to Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka (half-hearted military intervention through IPKF), Bangladesh (by not assimilating it in India when two nation theory failed in 1971 and which was the basis of India’s partition)]. But handling of martial matters by India faces new kind of threats not merely because Modi does not give it requisite importance but also due to the fact that his macho image (projected by himself & media and perceived by people mainly through jingoism) is bound to lead to more of such mistakes as have been committed by Modi during last fortnight regarding martial matters. Therefore when India has again immensely supported a Gujarati (Modi as PM) – Let us keep our fingers crossed.

Pakistan was slighted by Modi by cancelling Aug, 25 Indo – Pak Foreign Secretaries talks on the basis of territorial integrity of India (which Modi govt. says that it is breached if Pak talks to separatists). This territorial integrity has no meaning as long as POK is with Pakistan but Modi has shown no intention of retrieving POK. Even GOI’s stand that separatists are very few in numbers and do not represent the people of J&K (hence cancellation of talks is justified) has been given a sever beating by resolution of J&K Legislative Council urging India to resume talks with Pakistan to solve Kashmir problem.

Now Modi neither wants India to wage war for retrieving POK nor wants to talk to Pakistan (if Pak insists on talking to Kashmiris including separatist, which it can not stop in view of its stated position that J&K is an integral part of Pakistan).  Regarding Pakistan one more factor is worth taking into consideration. Pakistan is theocratic State and Islam, as per media reports, has laid down the lives of about one hundred thousand Muslims for Kashmir. Therefore Islam will not allow government of Pakistan to forget Kashmir and itself will mobilize Jihadis to create troubles in India (through terrorism etc). This will be in addition to LOC / Border firing by Pak (killing and harassing civilians too) which will be carried out in order (as mentioned by former Indian Army Generals including former Indian Army Chief during debates on TV channels) to test the resolve of Modi to not talk to Pakistan. Therefore now when entire J&K (through Legislative Council resolution) wants India to talk to Pakistan then India should ask Pakistan to talk about handing over POK to India (with military implications).

Like Nehru [who committed mistake of issuing statement at airport without any preparation and without understanding the martial implication of such irresponsible statement (that he has asked military to throw away Chinese from Indian soil) which resulted in humiliating defeat for India during Indo – China war in 1962], – Modi issued statement in Japan about territorial expansion of China which (even as reported by Chinese and Indian media) is bound to be taken by China as India taking the side of Japan in Sino -Japanese territorial disputes of Icelands etc.

Like previous governments Modi also does not realize that dispute with Pakistan is political (which can be resolved only by retrieving POK) whereas with China it is legal and this can easily be resolved by constituting a judicial commission to which both India and China can submit documents and other proofs of their respective position and claims. Even minor give and take can also be recommended by this judicial commission on the basis of ground realities.

India should never forget that it is a special country that is why even in this part of Asia it has been successfully practicing all the said modern Western political concepts. When rest of the world was mired in barbarism, India even four centuries B.C. was practicing non-violence (backed by martial power in contrast to what Mahatma Gandhi did) during the rule of Emperor Ashoka the Great through Baudhism and Jainism [which in present age has been converted (regarding this-worldly matters) into human rights friendly criminal law].

Therefore if Modi is really interested in economic development of India and in warding – off the mischief of Jihadi terrorists from other countries in J&K, North – East and various cities of India, then he should start taking the military matters seriously and responsibly.
