Cow Slaughter Ban: Cow’s have Regain Importance

Himadrish Suwan for BeyondHeadlines

Lord Krishna, the ‘Makhan Chor’ is always remembered as protector of cows. It is melancholy to know that in our country we connect every roots with the roots of religion. Our ancient Indian ethos and values doesn’t teach us to kill mother cow, who nurture us from the day we start taking shape in the womb of our mother till we leave this mother earth. Sadly, the previous governments seems unbothered about this rich ethos of our culture.  Mahatma Gandhi worked tirelessly for the protection of mother. It’s a need of hour to take a pause and reflect whether we should kill our mother cow who give us milk and various milk products which are essential for our children who are suffering with protein deficiency. Our future generation is not getting sufficient milk and we want to kill cows that provide us ‘ladder for life’.

Banning beef on religious grounds is obviously not secular.  But banning organized slaughter of innocent animals is definitely secular and humanitarian. I am shocked that people are opposing the recent beef ban legislation. This shows how much brainwashing has been done in past decades. The cow is considered sacred in Hinduism. She is Gau-Mata, the one who should be worshipped for the various graces she bestows on humanity. This legislation is an important step towards peace, oneness as we are not people who torture and kill others and feel happy, those who can love nature can only love his nearer ones and humans also equally living at the least cost of nature, least domination on nature is true path towards oneness. Everyone is equally important as lord loves all, lord gave everyone self protection .Unfortunately brain to human, which they waste in professionalism or practicalism.

Beef-eating is portrayed in the world almost as a patriotic endeavor. Our favourite role models are featured in McDonalds ads and toys. We are literally bombarded with ads for McDonalds, Burger King, and Wendy’s. But there is something very odd about all this. There are hints telling us that there is something wrong with all this beef consumption. Beef contains significant quantities of the most toxic organic chemical known – dioxin. This chemical is toxic in the trillionths of grams. (A trillionth of a gram, called a picogram, is one million millionth of a gram. A gram is about 1/30th of an ounce.) Dioxin has been linked to cancer, endometriosis, Attention Deficit Disorder (hyperactivity in children), reproductive systems defects in children, chronic fatigue syndrome, immune system deficiency, and rare nerve and blood disorders. A single hamburger (a little less than 1/4 lb, or 100 grams) contains up to 100 picograms of dioxin. That is 300 times as much as the EPA says is “acceptable” for a daily dose for an adult! Next ,  Beef production is the major cause of the destruction of the world’s rainforests. The high price of beef encourages ranchers to burn the forest to create new range lands. Most important The beef “fast-food” industry, notably McDonalds and Burger King, especially targets children in its marketing. As a result, millions of children (and in many cases, their parents) associate eating at those “restaurants” as a fun, positive, healthful eating experience. Obesity and other afflictions associated with excess animal fat intake and sedentary lifestyle are now affecting young adults and children in increasing numbers.

Lord Krishna states in Srimad Bhagavad-Gita: chapter 10, verse 28, Cows are the mothers of all creatures. Cows are verily the mothers of the 33 crores of demigods that administrate creation in the material existence throughout all the universes. Cows are the goddesses of the gods and the refuge of all auspiciousness. Cows bestow every kind of happiness and for these reason they always are worshippable. Cows are the support of all the worlds for by their milk they nourish terrestrials beings and by their ghee offered in sacrifice they nourish the denziens of the celestial realms. Nothing superior to cows.A cow should not be owned by one who is a killer of cows or a seller to killers of cows, by one who is unrighteous, by one who is sinful, by one who is untruthful in speech, and by one who is outside of the Vedic culture nor should cows ever be given to one such as these. Gifts of cows should be made after ascertaining and determining the qualification of the receiver. Cows should never be given unto those whose residence they are likely to suffer from fire or sun. Cows should always be given away accompanied by their calves. Those cows who have been rescued from situations of distress or have been received from humble farmers unable to continue to take care of them properly are considered to be most auspicious.

One should never show disrepect for cows in any way nor should one feel any repugnance towards the urine and dung of a cow because these things are also pure. When cows are grazing or laying down relaxing one should never disturb or annoy them in any way. Cows should never be killed in any type of sacrifice or slaughtered in any way for food as the killing of cows constitutes the most heinous of all sins in existence.( Source : http://www.bhagavad-gita.org)

After the Maharashtra government, the Haryana Assembly  unanimously passed a bill under which cow slaughter and the sale of beef have been banned in the state. The new law will also promote conservation and development of indigenous breeds of cows and establish institutions to keep, maintain and take care of the infirm, injured, stray and uneconomic cows. The Cow has been declared Nepal’s national animal for it has the supreme qualities of animals. The cow was venerated as the mother goddess in early Mediterranean civilizations. The cow became important in India, first in the Vedic period, but only as a symbol of wealth. But cow has regain importance again after decades, thanks to the BJP government.

Most of the Indian States have already banned Cow slaughter. Actually, in 85% areas of the Indian states have its own regulatory laws in force to prohibit the rampant cow slaughter. I hope all states ban cow slaughter irrespective of religious roots as there are other practical reason to do so….
