India is being transformed into world’s largest prison : Justice (Retd) PB Sawant

BeyondHeadlines News Desk

Pune : Justice PB Sawant, the former Supreme Court Judge who has been one of the main organisers and convenor of Bhima Koregaon Shaurya Diwas Prerna Abhiyan, an umbrella organisation of 260 organisations which conducted the Elgar Parishad on December 31 has been one of the most vocal critics of fascism and right wing militant organisations which are wreaking havoc in the country. Justice Sawant has strongly condemned the crackdown on the civil rights activists in multi-city raids.

“The nation can’t expect anything else from the fascist regime. They see everywhere Naxalites in each person who has the power to dissent. Therefore, this is going to increase further in the run up to the election. I call it a kind of state terrorism and this is the start. In fact, this game of witch hunt of the activists began with the arrest of five activists some time back and the present action shows that the government is interested in complete crackdown with the motive of imposing dictatorship,” he said.

“It is the government which is creating the division in the society in the form of caste and religion. Even amongst the castes, different groups in the case, they can live only by dividing the society. They are few in numbers and using every means at their disposal to create divisions. In fact government is creating disunity and behaving in an unpatriotic manner. The present government should be hauled for anti national and anti patriotic activities. The division in the society is their only strength, though they are few in numbers they have got all the means to defeat the larger section of masses,” Sawant told media persons in Pune.

“In the immediate future I foresee increased government terrorism and maybe we have to face a scenario where the entire nation is converted into a big prison. I don’t know. No man is secure in this country today and that can be anticipated. The Maharashtra Government has to explain the contradiction that while the Pune rural police have given an affidavit in the Supreme Court blaming Sambhaji Bhide and Milind Ekbote for the Bhima Koregaon violence, they have now arrested these writers, lawyers and activists on the other side,” he said.
