Ahmednagar: Maharashtra State Minorities Commission Chairman Haji Yasar Arafat said that it joked that peons were working as officers of Maharashtra Waqf Board for many years and the government was quite unaware of it.

Arafat said “It is a shame that the constitutional body like waqf board is operating in this way. If this is the condition in waqf board then one can leave it to imagine what might be happening in land records and land control department of the government of Maharashtra. It shows that governance is missing and take over of the mafia in the Waqf department. This mafia has connections in all land department and one can think what they might be doing to citizens of Maharashtra belonging to all communities. We condemn the shameful working of the board,” he said.

He told media persons during his visit to Karjat in Ahmednagar where he offered condolences to the family of late Waqf activist Tauseef Shaikh.

Arafat told the Ahmednagar police that the family members, waqf activists and other relatives working for justice of Tauseef must not be booked under false cases. Many Muslim and Waqf organizations have complained to Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis demanding action those policemen who were sending notices to activists under Criminal Procedure Code 111 with the intention of dissuading them from working for waqf work in Karjat. The activists have demanded registration of criminal cases against those policemen allegedly working for vested interests.

‘The Rs 500 crore Karjat Waqf land belonging to Dawal Malik Waqf Dargah is spread over 200 acres of prime urban land currently under control of waqf mafia’ said local residents. MLA Imtiaz Jaleel has demanded CID or Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the land scam and protection to lives of waqf activists and whistleblowers.

Tauseef Shaikh is the first Muslim of Maharashtra who committed suicide by pouring petrol over himself at Tahsildar office in front of Ahmednagar District Collectors Office on Dec 21, 2018. He was very much disgusted as authorities were not paying attention to his applications and complaints against illegal encroachment of Waqf properties in Karjat tahsil of Ahmednagar district. Local Muslims are very much agitated after the death of Tauseef Shaikh and are blaming Waqf Land Mafia and corrupt officials for suicide and death of Tauseef Shaikh. Jaleel has also demanded to probe the nexus between police, administration and the waqf mafia.
