New Delhi: On the occasion of World Earth Day, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Prof. Najma Akhtar administered pledge to the teaching and non-teaching staff of the university to protect the environment by saving electricity, water and other natural resources.
She also emphasised the employees to understand the importance of environment protection and take steps to make use of renewable sources of energy and also rain water harvesting to the optimum possible.
She advised the employees not to treat the pledge just as a formality but should include environment protection as a practice in their day-to-day life.
Further, taking a note of the serial bomb blast held in Sri Lanka the Vice Chancellor and the employees also observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims and their families.She also added that JMI as an institution and it’s employees individually should make efforts to make the country safe and secure by creating awareness and being more sensitive and vigilant.
In addition to the pledge ceremony an awareness lecture was also organized on World Earth Day at Advance Power Electronics Research Lab, Department of Electrical Engineering, JMI. Dr. Sohail Akhtar, Advisor, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy delivered a talk on ‘Future Scope of Renewable Energy in India’. He explained how renewable energy sources are the solution for protecting environment of the earth and its multiple growth opportunities in India.
