Jamia to launch LEED Lab course to prepare students become green building leaders

BeyondHeadlines News Desk

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) would soon be offering LEED Lab ( Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) course for students in its Architecture program. LEED Lab is a multidisciplinary immersion course that prepares students to become green building leaders and is the most widely used green building program in the world. JMI will be starting this course in collaboration with GBCI (Green Business Certification Inc.) India. GBCI is the organization that certifies all LEED green building projects worldwide.

LEED Lab course will be launched at an inaugural function to be held on 8th August 2019 at Yasser Arafat Hall of the university.

The LEED Lab course teaches students the foundational concepts of green building and prepares them for careers in post-graduation through project-based learning and hands-on experience.

During the course, students assess the performance of an existing facility on campus and choose one building where they facilitate the entire LEED for Building Operations and Maintenance (LEED O+M) process themselves, with the goal of certifying the facility.

LEED Lab connects concepts to practical applications and immerses students in the integrative process foundational to green buildings.

At the end of the semester, students who participate in the course have the opportunity to earn the LEED AP O+M professional credential – a highly marketable credential that signifies their green building experience and knowledge and provides them with a distinct advantage in the job market.

The goal of the course is to prepare students for competitive 21st-century careers and equip them with the skills, knowledge and expertise required to be effective communicators, project managers, critical thinkers, problem solvers, engaged leaders and team players.
