New Delhi: Famous broadcaster and poet Prof. Obaid Siddiqui died today morning at Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad after a short illness. He was 63 years old.
Born in Meerut City, Western UP, Obaid Siddiqui received his early education in his homeland and went to Aligarh Muslim University for higher education, earning a gold medal in MA in Urdu.
He started his career with All India Radio and was associated with Srinagar station. In 1988 he was selected for BBC London’s Urdu service, and continued to serve as an announcer until 1996.
After returning from London, he joined NDTV and worked as a magazine editor. In 2004, he joined the Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication Research Center, Jamia Millia Islamia as a professor.
His burial will be tomorrow at 2 PM in the afternoon (After Friday prayer) at Jamia Qabristan, Jamia Milia Islamia.
