Thane Traffic Police beaten Bilal Abdul Qadir on 2nd May so mercilessly that he has to undergo surgery for his broken hand and limb. His crime was that he broke the traffic signal at Kalyan Bhiwandi crossing.

“He was brutally beaten up in full public view just as he stepped on the signal. Many people had crossed the signal, but he was singled out for thrashing, others were just fined. He was also ready to pay fine, but he was dragged out of the bike he was driving and thrashed mercielly,” Dr. Salem Sheikh, Bilal’s brother told BeyondHeadlines over phone.

After beating Bilal Abdul Qadir Sheikh was pushed into police jeep, taken to police station and a case was lodged under section 353. Then the police took him to hospital but after finding that injuries were serious and doctors did not allow discharge they left him there and fled, informed his brother Dr. Salem.

When he approached the local police station to file complaint, they refused to lodge complaint. Dr. Salem has sent complaint to higher police authorities like ACP and DIG, but no action has been taken so far against the guilty policemen.

Meanwhile, Shabnam Hashmi of Anhad has sent a letter to Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chauhan seeking action against the guilty policemen. She has demanded immediate suspension of the policemen and adequate compensation to the victim.

“I am absolutely shocked at the way an ordinary citizen has been brutally attacked for crossing a signal. He was ready to pay the fine for the mistake but Maharashtra police instead decided to thrash him,” she wrote in the letter to CM.

“We demand immediate suspension of the police men responsible and filing of a case of brutality against them as well as adequate compensation for the victim and all expenses for his treatment,” she said.
