Hyderabad: About 15 people killed and many injured in two blasts today evening in the crowded area of Dilsukh Nagar near Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh.

The first blast has occurred around 7 pm near Venkatadri Theatre and the second near Konark Theatre – the two cinema houses are about 500 meters from each other.

Victims of the serial explosions were rushed to Osmania Hospital, while police personnel were trying to control public and keep them away from the site that falls under the Cyberabad Commissionerate.

Reacting to the situation over a national television, Hyderabad MP and MIM Supremo Asaduddin Owaisi expressed his grief and condemned the attack.

He urged all political parties to come forward in the time of crisis, and requested the AP government for a compensation package for the victims.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that intelligence alerts had suggested a possible terror attack, but the inputs lacked specificity.

Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the National Security Guard (NSG) teams will fly to Hyderabad to investigate the latest blast cases, Home Secretary RK Singh said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh termed today’s Hyderabad blasts as a “dastardly attack”, and sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each to next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 each to those seriously hurt.

Tweets from Prime Minister’s office vowed, “The guilty will not go unpunished.”

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy also condemned the recent blasts and announced compensation for the victims of the explosions.

In 2002, two persons were killed in a bomb blast near the Sai Baba temple in the Dilsukh Nagar area, which houses Andhra Pradesh’s largest fruit market.
