Pune : The Deccan Gymkhana police registered a cross complaint (related to rioting) against the right wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists and workers of Kabir Kala Manch (KKM) after both lodged separate complaints with the Deccan Police.

The clash took place at around 8pm on Wednesday in front of National Film Archives (NFAI) on Prabhat Road. The Deccan Gymkhana police had provided bandobast at the venue but still the incident took place on the road. According to eye-witnesses, it was the ABVP which resorted to provocation, abuse and strong arm tactics aimed at spreading terror in the FTII campus.

Students-attacked-by-ABVP-300x181Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) student Kislay Umashankar Tiwari (25) of FTII Boys Hostel has lodged a complaint in this regard with the police stating that ABVP’s Solanki, Sagar Shinde and 10 other accomplices allegedly beat up a couple of FTII students and KKM workers after the show concluded at the NFAI. The FTII students had organised a play of KKM and had screened a film Jai Bhim Comarade at NFAI.

The ABVP workers had gathered outside the NFAI premises and were waiting for KKM workers to come out of NFAI. The KKM workers waited for 15 to 20 minutes inside the premises and then decided to walk out of the campus.

At first there were exchanges of word and later heated arguments took place. FTII students also intervened in the issue and fight broke out. The ABVP workers allegedly beat up FTII students and KKM workers with helmets and some sticks.

While Sagar Shinde (28) of Bopodi, a ABVP worker had lodged a complaint stating that KKM workers Deepak Dengle and few FTII students allegedly beat up ABVP workers when they were protesting against the KKM’s links with the naxal movements in the country.

Senior Police Inspector Manohar Joshi of Deccan Gymkhana police station said that police will probe all the allegations and riot cases have been filed against the both the parties.

It is not for the first time that ABVP has taken the law into its own hand. A section of civil society maintained that ABVP was a radical outfit working against the constitution of India in the garb of nationalism. The members demanded the ABVP to be brought under the scanner of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and anti terror agencies of the country.
