MUMBAI: Vinita Kamte, wife of slain IPS officer Ashok Kamte who was killed in the 2008, 26/11 terror attack case in Mumbai has expressed fear that the new Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria could try to influence the probe into the circumstances which led to her husband’s death.
Kamte said the state information commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad has asked for details from the state home department about the alleged discrepancy in control room records which was under the control of Rakesh Maria, the then joint commissioner, crime, on the day of the terror attack.
Vinita expressed hope that Maria should not be using his influence now that he is heading the Mumbai police as commissioner in providing details about the control room records during the 59 hour siege by terrorists. The details have been sought by the states chief information commissioner.
However she reiterated that even without getting clear answers to the doubts raised by her she would take her case to logical conclusion. Vinita had earlier written a book in 2009, ‘the last bullet,’ on the terror attack and had raised serious questions about the manner in which the top officers… Hemant karkare, Ashok kamte and Vijay salaskar were gunned down.
Another IPS officer, former IGP Maharashtra S. Mushrif has also written two books- Who Killed Karkare and 26/11 Probe: Why Judiciary Failed, raising serious questions about the killing of three top officers and claiming that because Hemant Karkare was about to expose role of right wing groups in some terror cases he was killed in a planned covert operation. Mushrif has written in detail about a sinister conspiracy involving a deep state which he believes, has killed the trio for exposing a deadly nexus of right wing terrorism.
Incidentally two other top cops in Maharashtra who were claimants for the coveted post of Mumbai commissioner are believed to be upset with the decision of the Maharashtra Govt. for favouring Rakesh Maria.
