New Delhi: The first round of talks between Indian Home Secretary G.K. Pillai and his Pakistani counterpart Chaudhary Qamar Zaman kicked off on an optimistic note with regard to the bilateral issues of the two countries on March 28, 2011. As a result, the Indian judicial commission has got an approval to visit Pakistan to investigate the 26/11 terror attack case. Similarly, a commission from Pakistan will also visit India, and the dates of the same will be announced in few weeks.
Both the commissions from Pakistan and India are given access to talk with the investigators and the witnesses of the 26 November 2008 Mumbai terror case. On the other hand, the National Investigation Agency in India and the Federal Investigation Agency of Pakistan are expected to continue their cooperation in the investigations.
The investigation of the Mumbai terror case, which didn’t see much improvement for than two years, is finally seeing some development. India has already shared its lead information on the Samjhauta blasts with Islamabad while Pakistan, which till now didn’t permit any Indian investigators to visit Pakistan, has accepted for the first time. The two home secretaries, apart from the 26/11 case, have also discussed about several issues. They agreed to set up a hot line between them in order to share information regarding the terror attacks.
The bilateral relations between Pakistan and India are expected to get better with the visit of Pakistan Prime minister to India, to watch the India- Pakistan World cup semi-finals in Mohali, Punjab on 30 March 2011.
