Pune : The much awaited Southern Command Gold Cup Race was conducted at Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) Race Course, Pune on 01 September 2018.
The race was preceded by an enthralling Combat Demonstration which showcased the prowess of Indian Army. The Combat Demonstration which included the helicopter fly past, combat free fall, and attack of enemy post by tanks & Infantry troops, kept the audience on the edge of their seats. Young cadets of National Defence Academy showcased their tent pegging skills.
The military band present at the venue played martial tunes which left the audience spellbound. The event was witnessed by Lieutenant General DR Soni, PVSM, VSM, ADC, Army Commander, Southern Command and other senior Army and civil dignitaries, school children, racing enthusiasts of Pune and their families.
The Southern Command Gold Cup Race was won by Intense Stylist (name of horse) ridden by Zervan, trained by S K Sunderji and owned by Mr Rajesh Monga (name of owner). The trophy to the winner was presented by Lieutenant General DR Soni, PVSM, VSM, ADC, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, who also gave away prizes to other winners and felicitated all the functionaries of the event.
